Rally history in Heidelberg

From tomorrow, the Ihle Motorsport team will be represented with several special rally cars in Heidelberg at the "Heidelberg Historic".

First of all, Ihle Motorsport will be competing in the Slowly Sideways with the Opel Manta 400 Vatanen. This Opel is the 16th of only 38 vehicles built and finished in the top places in various European rallies in the mid-1980s.

In addition to the Slowly Sideways rally cars, the team will also be exhibiting two Audi Sport quattro cars and the VW LT service car from Audi Sport.

Friends of rallying can therefore look forward to three days full of historic motorsport experiences.

Motorsport in St. Gilgen

Just over a month ago, Ihle Motorsport will be back on the Austrian roads tomorrow. The team will be represented with the Audi Sport Quattro "Michèle" in St. Gilgen at the quattrolegende.
Before the rally cars hit the roads at the weekend, the many historic vehicles can be marvelled at on Thursday at the "quattrolegende - exhibition".
On Friday and Saturday, spectators can look forward to a total of two regularity tests and two acceleration races.

From Portugal to Austria

After a few quiet weeks, things will finally get going again next weekend. Ihle Motorsport will be represented at the Rally Spirit 2024 from 30 May to 1 June as part of Slowly Sideways. The team will be travelling with the Audi 200 Quattro ex Mikkola. This vehicle made its rally debut at the 1987 Acropolis Rally and finished third with two fastest times. The driver was Hannu Mikkola.
On the same weekend, Ihle Motorsport will also be exhibiting the Audi Sport quattro Michele at the Motor Day at the Salzburgring on 1 and 2 June

This vehicle is one of only 20 of Audi Sport built competition vehicles in Group B and the first in a World Cup run set up by a total of just eight vehicles used for events. Stig Blomqvist and Bjorn Cederberg went to the Rally Argentina at the end of July 1985.

Audi officially entered the World Rally Championship in 1979. This vehicle is one of the four built works wagons of Group 4. It was registered with the license plate IN-NS 23 on 21.02.1979 on the Audi AG and immediately used at the Sachs Winter Rallye.

In the first half of the 1980s, Volkswagen Motorsport experimented with vehicles fitted with two engines. First attempts with a VW Jetta and a VW Scirocco were followed by three twin-engine vehicles featuring different technologies for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The first prototype was built with 2 Oettinger 1.8 litre engines and tested on June 20th, 1985 on the Volkswagen test ground in Ehra, just 2 days before the airlift to the United States for the race on July 13th, 1985 in Colorado, USA.
